El Dorado County Fair Idol
Thursday, June 17 beginning at 2:30 pm.
All contestants shall perform at a preliminary competition on the Main Stage.
Ten finalists shall be chosen to perform at the final competition on June 20 at 2 pm on the Main Stage. The winner shall be sponsored by the El Dorado County Fair to participate
in the regional competition, to be held September. This competition is
not affiliated with any other “Idol” or talent competition. The winner of the regional competition shall receive a prize.
Requirements:
• Contestants must reside within El Dorado County
• Contestants must pre-register (by June 16)
by calling the Fair Office at (530) 621-5860
• Only solo vocalists may enter. Duets, trios, bands are not eligible
• Contestants may sing acappella or to professionally recorded tracks, which contestant will supply on a CD. Lead vocals on the track must be removed.
• Accompaniment by any form of live musical instrument is not allowed
• Contestants must perform at the preliminary contest in order to be eligible for the final
competition.
• Minors under the age of 18 as of the day of the preliminary contest (June 17) must have a signed Consent and Name Release authorization form signed and on file with Fair office
prior to preliminary.

Battle of the Bands Competition
Friday, June 18 at noon

Are you in a high school or younger band? Compete on the Main Stage at the El Dorado County Fair for fun and Benjamins on Friday, June 18, 2010.
- Bands must provide their own instruments
- Sound and technician is provided by fair
- Music must be family friendly
- Must have music to fill a twenty-minute time slot
1st Place - $250
2nd place - $150
3rd place - $ 75

All teens 13-19 get in free from noon till 4pm for Teen Day

The ‘Ultimate’ Elvis Competition
Friday at 5pm Tiki Bar Stage
Pre-registration is required.
Judged on appearance, stage presence, and sound. Elvis Impersonators are required to have prepared two songs and call the fair office at 530-621-5860 by June 16th (or until spaces fill) to book time slot. No entry fee besides the general admission ticket to get you into the fair.
A First Place Trophy will be awarded. Charley Franks, professional Elvis Impersonator from Las Vegas will be on the panel of judges. You do not need to be an El Dorado County resident.
2nd Annual Cattle Sorting and 2 on 1 Team Penning
Friday June 18

Pre-register by June 16 to get in to fair for FREE!
Day of Registrations must pay fair entrance fee of $8 per person to enter fairgrounds.
Cattle working clinic
10 am - 1 pm $35 per participant.
Ranch Horse Working Cattle Class:
2:00 pm (part of the Mother Lode Horse Show), will count towards El Dorado County Fair Ranch Horse Award. $35 entry + $5 jackpot, includes cattle charge.
Ranch Sorting:
4:00 pm - Team of 2 riders, sorting 10 cattle from one pen to another in order. Top 10 teams to second go. $40 per rider, 50% jackpot, buckles to 1st place team.
Arena Sorting:
6:00 pm - Team of 3 riders sorting 10 cattle across foul line in order. Top 10 teams to second Go. $40 per rider, 50% jackpot, buckles to 1st place team.
2 on 1 Team Penning:
8:00 pm -Team of 2 riders, pen one cow. Top 10 teams to second go. $40 per rider, 50% jackpot, buckles to 1st place team.
Entries close 30 minutes before each event. Pre-register by June 16 to get in to fair for FREE!

Horse Trailers will be allowed on grounds, all passengers must pay fair admission (unless registered by June 16, 2010).
Plein Air Painting
Friday, June 18
Pre-registration by May 28 is required.
What is Plein Air Painting you ask? Plein Air translates to “open air. This term is used to describe paintings that have been created outdoors, rather than in the studio. Photo references are not used. Come to the Fair and capture the fun and excitement of fair time on your canvas!
Check-in at the Fine Arts Department between Noon and 2pm
located in the Corker Building
Artwork to be completed and in Corker Building by 6 pm for judging.
Awards presentation 7:00 pm Artwork will be on display until 8:00pm
Prizes: 1st Place - $100 • 2nd Place - $75 • 3rd Place – $25
Cash prizes will only be paid if there are 5 exhibitors or more.

Capture the fun and excitement of the El Dorado County Fair with your digital camera or camera phone.
RULES
1. Check in and pay at the Fine Arts/Photography Building
anytime between Noon and 8 pm on Friday, June 18. At
that time, you will be given the e-mail address to e-mail your
best photo to us.
2. Take a photograph at the Fair with your digital camera
or camera phone between Noon and Midnight on
Friday, June 18. Photos may be taken at any public
location on the Fairgrounds. Examples: Livestock,
carnival, entertainment, exhibits, etc.
3. If taking a photo of a person and not a “crowd,” you
must get their permission to use photo and supply name and phone number of person in order for the Fair
to verify permission to use and post photo on website.
4. E-mail your best photo to the e-mail address provided at
check in. Photos MUST be e-mailed. Photos e-mailed
to any other, not listed above address will be
disqualified.
5. Photos must be e-mailed to web site no later than 10:00
am on Saturday, June 19, 2010.
6. Include your name and class number listed below when
you e-mail photo. If using a photo of people or a
person that is not in a “crowd,” provide the
people/person’s name and phone number to verify use
of said photo.
7. Photos may NOT be altered with the exception of
cropping or normal color or density balancing and
spotting (i.e., red eye).
8. Winners will be posted in the Fine Arts/Photography
Building by 5:00 pm., Saturday, June 19, 2010.
9. By entering in this competition, the exhibitor agrees that
any photograph submitted may be used by the El
Dorado County Fair on web sites, future publications
and promotions without compensation to exhibitor.
10. Cash awards will be available for pick up in the Fair
office, no earlier than Monday, June 21, 9 – 4 pm.
Checks not picked up will not be mailed and will be
forfeited after 60 days.
Mutton Bustin'

Destruction Derby

Come watch the “Crash-A-Rama” Destruction Derby participants as they put their choice of American-made hard top stock cars to the ultimate test. They will crash, smash, and ram other vehicles in the arena, yet keep their own vehicle in operation. There is a total of five events that the drivers must endure while judges keep score on the sidelines and decide which of the drivers are the most skilled to be declared a winner in this brutal competition.
The winners of the main event receive $1,400 first place, $500 second, $250 third and $150 fourth. Winners of the heats receive $100 for first place, $50 for second. The best appearing car and the mad dog award receives $50. The total cash purse, a great payoff of $3,000. In addition to the money, the first, second, third and fourth in the main event, first place in heats, best appearing car and mad dog award all receive trophies.
All American made hard top stock cars are allowed, that conform to the rules. Glass must be removed, doors spot welded or chained and other rules for drivers and spectators observed.
The destruction derby is open to anyone that wishes to participate. Pick up the entry form and rules at the fairgrounds main office, call the racing office

Hay Bucking Contest
Saturday, June 19 at 7:30 pm
Hay Bucking Contests by age group in the Equistrian Arena.
Scored on speed--and quality of the load for the older groups.
Watch the little ones figure out a technique of their own to get the hay into the truck with the help of a partner the same size... or watch adults who sometimes beat another team by a fraction of a second.
Lots of fun to watch and or participate!

911 Firehouse Team Challenge
2 person Fire Station Team. Entry fee - $25 if postmarked on or before 6/4/10, $40 after.
The first team member starts the race and hands off the wheelbarrow,
gold pan and ore midway through the course. The partner then finishes the race.

In 1879, In order to encourage county residents to participate in the State Fair, the railroad offered to transport livestock entries from El Dorado to Sacramento for free, and people at half price.
